Mark 1:9-11 New International Version (NIV)
The Baptism and Testing of Jesus 9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

One day, over a thousand years after Joseph forgave his brothers and God used him to save them from death and after many years of sin and rebellion by the Israelites, a small-town carpenter came to the Jordan River to be baptized by a prophet named John. He looked just like everyone else who came to be baptized. But when he came up out of the water something different happened. The skys, the heavenly realm of God’s kingdom, were torn open and a beautiful dove came down and landed on that man. Then a voice spoke from heaven and said, “You’re the One! I am overjoyed with YOU, my beloved Son.” Here is the fulfillment of the promise to Abraham over a thousand years before. Here is the One who will bless “all the families of the earth.” Will He trust this promise from His Father, even in death?
