Don't Worry-The Wine Won't Run Out!

John 2:1-5 New International Version
Jesus Changes Water Into Wine 2 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” 4 “Woman,[a] why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

2000 years ago, Jewish custom said that the groom provided the wine for a wedding. Weddings lasted for several days and sometimes up to 2 weeks. That meant that you needed wine for dozens, if not hundreds, of people for that whole time. Mary, the mother of Jesus, was worried about the reputation of the groom. The groom, and therefore his family, would be ridiculed for their failure to provide for their guests. Mary probably had some experience with social ridicule after getting pregnant (through the Holy Spirit) before she was married! But that is not why Jesus came into this world. He did not come to help us “save face.” He came to save us! He became the true groom who provides the ultimate wine for the great, eternal wedding feast. And YOU have been invited to be his guest at that feast! Don’t worry. The wine won’t run out!
