God's Command - Be Fruitful and Multiply!

Genesis 9:1-7 New International Version
God’s Covenant With Noah 9 Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. 2 The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands. 3 Everything that lives and 4 “But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it. 5 And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being. 6 “Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind. 7 As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it.”

In this re-creation story, God gives Noah and his family the same blessing that he gave Adam and Eve. God said, “Be fruitful and multiply.” Then God expanded that blessing. Killing animals was not necessarily bad, since Noah (and Abel before him) had already made an animal sacrifice. The issue is not vegetarian vs. omnivore, but God’s blessing! God blesses humanity with a dominion, which is normal, everyday life. Do you want to eat pizza today or kale? You choose! You have dominion over your diet. You have dominion over the animals. You DON’T have dominion over God! God is over you. This is where SIN enters the picture. We want God’s dominion, especially to judge others and control the world. For this sin you are forgiven!
