What does it mean to you to “have a god”? Have you ever thought about that? What is a god? Some people believe in a supernatural being or “force” that they might call “God” or might think of as “divine” but the God of the Bible is different. The God of the Bible speaks, usually through other people or beings (supernatural angels). The God of the Bible is personal, not mysterious and distant. The God of the Bible makes promises and desires faithfulness in response. When God gave Moses the 10 Commandments he rooted them in the statement “I am the Lord YOUR God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.” In other words, “I am the God who has chosen to be in a loving and merciful relationship with you. I am YOURS and I want you to give yourself to me.” That is an amazing gift! And in baptism, God has given that same promise to you and me!
