Jesus Came to Forgive Our Sins and Set Us Free!

Zechariah 9:9-12 New International Version (NIV)

The Coming of Zion’s King 9 Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10 I will take away the chariots from Ephraim and the warhorses from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River[a] to the ends of the earth. 11 As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit. 12 Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.

Some Biblical passages promise a peaceful future where all weapons and tools of war are destroyed and “cut off.” However, those passages are not simplistic pacifist plans to demilitarize the world. If we simply got rid of all our weapons the wicked, evil bullies of the world would find some way to hurt, intimidate and oppress the weak. Just look at the corporate world. It is filled with powerful people using money to bully, intimidate and oppress. Or consider a marriage where a spouse abuses the other either physically or verbally. Jesus has come to get to the heart of the matter: forgive the sin that has infected every part of our lives. Jesus has come to set us free from the prison of our sins so that we can live and love forever.
