John 1:32-34 New International Version (NIV)
32 Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. 33 And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.”[a]

If Jesus really is the “Lamb of God” who takes away the sin of the world then this next statement from John the Baptist is even more shocking. Jesus is not only the “Lamb of God” but also God’s very own Son. The Son of God has come into this world to be the sacrificial lamb for us. That is how much God loves us. That is not simplistic, sentimental love. That is not “passionate” romantic love. That is not a mere feeling of love. That is not simply being nice. The love that Jesus has for you and me is the kind of powerful love that sacrifices, endures, perseveres, and suffers. God suffered in order to personally give us His great love and mercy and fill us with His Holy Spirit.
