Mark 8:31-33 New International Version (NIV)
Jesus Predicts His Death 31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. 32 He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

Yesterday Peter confessed that Jesus was God’s messiah, the promised descendant of King David. But Peter only saw “halfway.” The proof of this came right away when Jesus began to tell the disciples about his future suffering, death, and resurrection. When he heard this, Peter had the audacity to take Jesus, his rabbi, aside and rebuke him! Peter rebuked God! He essentially said, “How dare you talk about dying. How dare you talk about suffering. You are supposed to win!” Peter could not fully see the true victory that Jesus came to accomplish and Jesus actually called him “Satan.” Peter wanted power. Jesus came to serve, forgive and love. That is our King!
