Luke 6:24-26
New International Version
24 “But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. 25 Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep. 26 Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.

“Woe!” Beware! Watch out! For what? Beware of wealth, a full belly, happiness, and even a good reputation! Why would Jesus want us to beware of these things? Doesn’t Jesus want us to be happy and have a full belly? Consider the Law and the Gospel. WE are very bad judges of who is blessed by God and who is not. On social media, someone will share about how God “blessed” them with something good (#blessed). How do they know for sure? If that is “blessed” then what about when we are poor, sick, hungry, or depressed? Did we do something bad? That is a legal question. Jesus has declared that you are blessed! You have the favor of God. It is undeserved! It is free. That is the Gospel. Do NOT look for #blessing except in Jesus alone!
