The stone jars were roughly 20-30 gallons. That means Jesus turned 120-180 gallons of water into wine. That is roughly 5-7 bathtubs full of wine! AND he did it AFTER the first batch of wine had already been consumed. Jesus must really like to party! Maybe. But he is also revealing something important to us. HE is the one who fulfills God’s promises! Several Old Testament prophecies declared that God would send an abundance of wine to overflow the cup of Israel in celebration. Amos 9:13 says, “the mountains shall drip sweet wine, and all the hills shall flow with it.” In other words, Jesus IS the party! He IS the celebration. HE IS God’s overflow of mercy and grace. Jesus IS the fulfillment of God’s promise to save, redeem, and forgive.
