Jesus Makes Us Clean, Beloved Children of God!

Mark 1:23-24 New International Version (NIV)

23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, 24 “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”

Tuesday - February 2

When I go home for lunch I sit down with my family and eat. When I go back to the office I am very careful around the kids. I don’t want their dirty hands and faces to make my clean shirt dirty! I don’t want to carry their lunch around with me all day. We live in a world where dirty things make clean things dirty. The Jewish religion had two primary categories: 1) holy/sacred which they would call “being clean” and 2) profane, which they would call “unclean.” This man that interrupts the teaching of Jesus has an “unclean” spirit, which is another way of saying an “unholy” spirit. But that spirit has no power to make Jesus “unclean” or dirty. Instead, Jesus, the Holy One of God has power over the spirit! Jesus, the Holy One of God destroys all that is “unclean” and to make us clean, holy, and beloved children of God!
