Jesus Proclaims God IS Faithful and Will FORGIVE Our Sins!

Mark 1:12-15 New International Version (NIV)

12 At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, 13 and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted[a] by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him. Jesus Announces the Good News 14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”

Why is the Holy Spirit who descended in the beautiful and peaceful form of a dove driving Jesus out into the wilderness? Jesus, like the people of Israel before Him, goes out into the wilderness to be tested. Will he trust God’s Word of promise? Or will he abandon God and look for help from someone or something else? Will Jesus be like Adam and Eve who allowed the lie of the devil to enter their ear and sink into their hearts? Or will Jesus cling to the Word of His Father and trust in Him alone? Once Jesus passes that initial test he goes back into the world to proclaim the good news that God is keeping His promise! Jesus is proclaiming that God really is faithful even when we are not. God will forgive our sins and give us eternal life!
