Matthew 25:10 New International Version (NIV)
10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. Thursday, October 1 My first real job was working as a summer janitor at the junior high in Pontiac. I learned early on that there is always something to do. Taking a break is one thing, but you should never be standing around with nothing to do. But that is not just true of paid work. Being a parent there is always something to do. You are always “on the clock.” Moms often take the full weight of this burden trying to feed, bathe, and care for the kids while keeping the house looking nice, doing all the laundry, etc. (Thanks moms!). Dad’s might help with the kids, too, but they also keep busy with projects around the house or outside, checking off items on the “Honey Do List.” But if we are constantly running around getting stuff done we often miss the most important things in life: our relationships. Like the “foolish” young girls who go running around looking for more oil we think that our busy-ness and running around will fill us up, too. But the “oil” of faith is not found in getting stuff done, doing stuff for God or keeping busy. The “oil” of faith comes from our relationship with Jesus. It comes from his forgiveness, mercy and love. It is something we receive as a gift.
