Love Others!

Mark 1:19-20 New International Version (NIV)
19 When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. 20 Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

What is every parent’s favorite of the 10 Commandments? The 4th, of
course! “Honor your father and your mother.” Yet, what happens when Jesus
says, “Follow me”? James and his brother, John, leave their father with the
hired workers to do the fishing all by himself! This is a lived out parable of
how Jesus calls us to leave the law behind and cling to the Gospel that Jesus
has come to proclaim. Where Jesus is going there is no law. That might
sound shocking, but it is true. The law restricts, binds and accuses. But, as
the Apostle Paul pointed out, “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against
such things there is no law.” (Gal. 5:22-23). Jesus calls us to follow Him into
the love, mercy, and grace of God. And now, because we have complete
forgiveness and mercy from God we can go out and freely forgive and love
others. Where the love of God reigns there is no need for the law!
