John 14:27-28 New International Version (NIV)
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
28 “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.

If I just disappeared one day my family might become concerned. They
might wonder if I abandoned them or that something bad happened to me.
But if I tell them that I am planning a trip to visit my brother in California
they will know where I went and why when I am gone. In a similar way, Jesus
lets us in on his plan to go to His Father. He promises that this is a good
thing. This is hard for us to fully grasp because we want to see, hear, and
touch God. We want to be able to examine God’s presence in our lives like
we dissect and examine a frog in high school biology class. But Jesus asks us
to trust him and trust his promises. But this trust is rooted in something real
and concrete: his death and resurrection. Even though he is not physically
present right now he told us where he was going and we can trust in his
faithfulness to fulfill his promise to come and get us.
