Genesis 3:1-5 New International Version (NIV)
The Fall 3 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” 2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’” 4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

The “unclean spirit” of Satan has been twisting God’s word from the beginning of time. He has always been lying, deceiving and placing false words in the ears of humanity. In the Garden of Eden, the serpent twisted God’s words so that Eve would think that God did not really love her or care for. The serpent made it seem like God was holding out on her and that God was keeping the power to be a “god” all to Himself! This is why faith in the promise of Jesus is central to our salvation and eternal life. As the prophet Habakkuk said, “the righteous shall live by his faith.” (Hab. 2:4; Romans 1:17). This is also why we Jesus comes to us and tells all the “unclean” spirits whispering in our ears to “shut up!” He wants us to hear only his voice!
