Only Through Faith in Jesus are We Made Righteous!

Romans 9:30-33 New International Version

Israel’s Unbelief 30 What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith; 31 but the people of Israel, who pursued the law as the way of righteousness, have not attained their goal. 32 Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone. 33 As it is written: “See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who believes in him will never be put to shame.”[a]

Luther: “The word of the Law was a carnally understood word, imperfect and extended or prolonged, so the Word of the Spirit, that is, of the Law spiritually understood, is a finished and abbreviated Word. It was an imperfect word because it signified but did not demonstrate which it signified… On the other hand, the Word of the Gospel is finished, because it bestows what it signifies, namely, grace… He who believes in Christ will not be in a hurry, will not flee, will not be terrified, for he fears nothing, stands quiet and secure, established on the solid rock. (Pastor Matt: the Word of the Law in our spiritual relationship with God cannot make us good, righteous and just even though we hope it will! Only through faith in Jesus are we made righteous, holy and justified before God).
