"Ordinary" and "Lowly" Acts...Jesus Works Daily in You! HE Loves YOU!

John 13:3-5 New International Version (NIV)

Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Saturday, October 24 Washing feet in a world of dirt roads without socks and shoes was a gross and lowly job. Usually people washed their own feet, but only lowly servants would wash the feet of other people. Yet this is the great “example” that Jesus gives us which was shown more completely and deeply on the cross! Jesus is FAR more than an example. He is our Savior! But the example he gives reveals how God’s kingdom works. God’s power is hidden in sacrifice, suffering, forgiveness and service. Who can you serve today? Your children as you clean up after them? Your employees as you treat them with dignity, respect, and kindness? The clerk at Casey’s or the server at McDonald’s? Jesus is using you in “ordinary” and “lowly” acts of service, mercy, and love even if you do not realize it’s happening! (Matt. 25:37-39).
