Preserving Everlasting Life

Matthew 28:5-8 New International Version (NIV)

5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

After telling them that Jesus has risen from the dead the “angel (messenger)

of the Lord” offers the women a chance to see for themselves. This event is

not something that God did in secret. It is not merely a “spiritual” idea or

feeling. God literally took a dead man and brought him back to life forever.

There is evidence: an empty tomb. The resurrection is an incredible

one-time event. There were hundreds of witnesses who saw Jesus die, saw

where he was buried and saw him risen from the dead. God did this for all

the world to see and know that death cannot and will not have the final

word. God is the God of life! And God will continue to give new life no

matter what obstacles lie in the way. Even our own death cannot stop God

from getting to us and raising us from the dead. Hallelujah! He is Risen!
