8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’ Wed. September 30 - I was born into a Lutheran family, so I was baptized as a baby. I grew up hearing about God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I learned the Bible stories about David, Samson, and Daniel. I was confirmed in the Lutheran church. Early in my high school years I grew to understand that what my parents and the church had given me was incredibly precious and valuable. They had given me the gift of Jesus. But I could not live on their faith. This was not a “conversion” and I did not get “re-baptized.” I was already a child of God. But like a growing child’s relationship changes with his parents, my relationship with God was changing. The Holy Spirit was giving me oil. The oil of my parents faith was not going to cut it. You cannot live off the faith of someone else. The Holy Spirit wants to fill you up with the oil of faith right now.
