Seek Friends Who Seek Jesus

Proverbs 27:1-13 New International Version (NIV)

27 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips. Stone is heavy and sand a burden, but a fool’s provocation is heavier than both. Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy? Better is open rebuke than hidden love. Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses. One who is full loathes honey from the comb, but to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet. Like a bird that flees its nest is anyone who flees from home.

Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of a friend springs from their heartfelt advice. 10 Do not forsake your friend or a friend of your family, and do not go to your relative’s house when disaster strikes you— better a neighbor nearby than a relative far away. 11 Be wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart; then I can answer anyone who treats me with contempt. 12 The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty. 13 Take the garment of one who puts up security for a stranger; hold it in pledge if it is done for an outsider. Friday - July 17 - Proverbs 27:1-13 This section contains some helpful wisdom for being around and surrounding ourselves with good friends. You know you have a good friend when they stand up for you and take abuse on your behalf (6). Having a good friend close by who can help in times of need can often be more helpful than having lots of loving family

members who live far away (10). It is also important to find good friends who will

tell us the truth, even when it hurts, because it will ultimately bring “sweetness” to

our lives (9). Do you have friends that you know you can trust? Do you have

friends that you know will tell you the truth and not just what you want to hear?

Do you have friends who will always give you the Good News that you are saved,

forgiven, and loved by God? Those are the best friends and the ones we need more

of!
