Luke 24:25-27
New International Version
25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

Jesus actually calls these men foolish or “unintelligent.” It seems harsh, but they think they know the scriptures and what God is up to. They think that the Old Testament is all about God telling people what to do. But that is not what it is about at all! Sure, there are rules to follow, but the Old Testament is primarily about what God has done for us (the Gospel), not what God wants us to do (the Law). The Old Testament was all about God helping and saving Israel and promising that one day a savior would come to rescue them (and us!). The primary issue in our relationship with God is whether we think everything is about us and what we do for God or whether everything is about God and what He has done and continues to do for us. The Bible has always been about God’s love for us.
