The King Is Here!

Wednesday - April 8 - Read Matthew 21:10-11

Matthew 21:10-11

10 And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?” 11 And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.”

In Matthew 2:3 the Magi arrive in Jerusalem and ask about a newborn king. The whole city became “disturbed” by this news. Here Jesus enters Jerusalem and once again the whole city is “stirred” up. Who is this Jesus? What has he come to do? Is he just posturing in order to get attention? Or is he a serious threat to the Roman government and King Herod? Today these questions still persist. Who is Jesus? Is he just a “good teacher?” Is he teaching us the power of peaceful civil disobedience? Is he a heroic martyr? This entry into the city of Jerusalem is a declaration that He is the king! He is the king who has come to rescue and save us. King Jesus entered into Jerusalem to announce that His kingdom had come and no one could stop it. Not even death! What a king we have!
