New International Version
10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

The magi “rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.” They were ecstatic that they had finally found the child. At this time it seems that Mary and Joseph had settled in Bethlehem, since they have a home that the wisemen enter into. Instead of wondering why a king was living in such a simple situation, they gave him gifts fit for a king! These foreigners bowed down to Jesus. Meanwhile, the supposed “King of the Jews” was plotting to kill him. Herod did not want to stoop that low! We don’t like stooping that low, either! Our king died on a cross?! But what an incredible gift! Jesus came to serve us!
