We Receive Grace Through the Gospel!

Romans 1:1-5 New International Version
1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God— 2 the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures 3 regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life[a] was a descendant of David, 4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power[b] by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. 5 Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from[c] faith for his name’s sake.

As a kid living by a church I usually had the biggest yard, so everyone would come to my house to play wiffle ball or touch football. When my mom would call to me and tell me it was time for dinner I was the only one who went inside. Everyone else went home to their own families. The call of God is similar. Not only does God’s call “invite” us into His kingdom, but it sets us apart. It makes us different. But Paul points out that the purpose for being set apart is the Gospel! At home we forgive and care for our spouse, children, and siblings. At work we are patient, kind and honest. With friends we are faithful and joyful. God has called us and set us apart with the purpose of being the “salt and light” of the Gospel (Matt. 5:13-16).
