We Want to Be In Charge-That is Sin!!

Luke 4:31-34 New International Version

Jesus Drives Out an Impure Spirit 31 Then he went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath he taught the people. 32 They were amazed at his teaching, because his words had authority. 33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, 34 “Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”

Monday - January 31

This “unclean spirit” knew who Jesus was. Just because we know who Jesus is does not mean that we are on his side! Even demons knew Jesus! Satan knew Jesus extremely well and even knew the Old Testament. When Jesus was in the wilderness (see Luke 4:1-13) Satan used scripture to tempt Jesus into sinning against His Father. Knowing who Jesus is and knowing the Bible is very important! But in daily life we do not actually want Jesus to be our king. ALL of us do this in our lives because we want to be in charge. We want to be king. If we can’t be in charge of the world we at least want to be in charge of our own lives. That rebellion is the “unclean spirit” that stands in opposition to Jesus. That is SIN. Tomorrow we will see what Jesus does!
