What in Your Path of Life is...Causing YOU to MISS JESUS?

John 2:18-22 New International Version (NIV)
18 The Jews then responded to him, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?” 19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” 20 They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” 21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body. 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.

Herod the Great began building the Jewish temple around 20 B.C. That means that this scene took place about 26 A.D. That Jewish temple that Herod built for the Jews was said to have been one of the greatest buildings of the ancient world. Herod took a hill, had it surrounded it with huge walls, filled in the extra space between the hill and the walls with dirt and rocks, flattened it all out and then built a massive temple on top. When the Jews heard Jesus say “destroy this temple and I will raise it in three days” they were amused and shocked. Amused at his seeming bravado and shocked that he would defy the “home” of God! They placed their faith in a building, not God. They liked the symbol of power, glory and success, so they missed God right in front of them. What might be causing you to miss Jesus?
