Matthew 25:14-15 New International Version (NIV) The Parable of the Bags of Gold 14 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag,[a] each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.
Mon. October 5 - Stop and think about these two verses for a moment. Actually read and “digest” the words of verse 14. Jesus describes the Kingdom of God as a master who entrusted his property to three servants. Far too often people jump to verse 15, where Jesus says that the three were given various amounts “according to his ability.” Then they make this into a parable about doing lots of great things for the Kingdom! “We must use our God-given gifts wisely!” It becomes a message of Law. However… if Jesus is the master, which I believe he is in this parable, then what is the “property” that has been entrusted to us? FORGIVENESS!!! (See Matt. 18:21-35; John 20:19-23). The property Jesus has entrusted to us is grace, forgiveness, mercy, love, peace, and forgiveness. Did I mention forgiveness? Who is God calling you to forgive today? Who is the person who needs forgiveness even if they haven’t asked for it and even if you don’t want to do it? Jesus has poured out his forgiveness on you and set you free. You are free. Go set others free!
