What Vocations has God Given You?

Mark 1:29-31 New International Version (NIV)

Jesus Heals Many 29 As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. 31 So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.

Monday - February 8

Simon’s (Peter) father-in-law must have passed away before this event. Simon and his wife had probably taken his mother-in-law into their home to care for her. The English translation of this passage makes it seem like she only had a bad fever. But the Greek word which says that Jesus “lifted her up” is the same word that means “resurrection.” Which means she was probably on her death bed. But as soon as she was healed she got back to work! Physical healing is never our primary goal. Seriously. We desire physical healing so we can get back to our normal life in this world. So we can be husbands and wives, parents, friends, farmers, coworkers, etc. What role (vocation) has God given to you in your normal, daily life?
