Ask In The Name of...Jesus!

John 14:13-14 New International Version (NIV)
13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

This passage and a few others are often taken to mean that we can ask our
Heavenly Father to give us a new Mustang in Jesus’s name and God will do
it. You can try that out and see what happens, but that is not what Jesus
means. If Jesus is THE Way, THE Truth, and THE Life then faith in Him means
following him in the way he goes, trusting in the truth that he reveals and
living the life that he has given to us. Therefore, if we are following Jesus
then our prayers will also be consistent with what Jesus is doing, teaching
and offering. A man in my previous congregation was dying of cancer. Every
week after worship a group would pray for his health and for his faith. Every
week he thanked them because he believed God was using them to give him
strength to keep going. That is praying in the name and the Way of Jesus.
