Because God Made the Promise...Our Sins will ALWAYS Be Forgiven!

Genesis 12:17-20 New International Version

17 But the Lord inflicted serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household because of Abram’s wife Sarai. 18 So Pharaoh summoned Abram. “What have you done to me?” he said. “Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife? 19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her to be my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and go!” 20 Then Pharaoh gave orders about Abram to his men, and they sent him on his way, with his wife and everything he had.

Notice God’s response to Abram’s sinful lack of faith. God remains faithful! Throughout the story of Abram and Sarai we will see connections to the story of Adam and Eve. However, God’s behavior will be much different. Instead of a curse or punishment for sin, Abram is forgiven! Why? Because of the promise. God does not lie and will not change his mind. A promise is a promise, not a contract or “gentlemen’s agreement.” God’s promise is completely one-sided. God made the promise to give Abram a family, land, and blessing. God will not go back on that promise even when Abram does what all humans do: SIN. In Christ we have that same promise. We will always be forgiven. Not because we are good or because we make amends for our SINful lack of faith, but because God has made a promise!
