God Is a Personal God...He Wants You to Come to Him!

Genesis 16:2 New International Version

2 so she said to Abram, “The Lord has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her.” Abram agreed to what Sarai said.

Abram plays a very interesting role in this story. He passively participates in this sinful scheme, similar to Adam in the Garden of Eden who passively watched Eve converse with the serpent and then took the fruit from Eve and ate it with her. One of the things that ruins a relationship, especially a marriage, is when one person becomes dominant and another passive. That is not a mutual, loving, caring or respectful relationship. Abram seems happy to passively participate and passively “pass the buck.” It’s not his problem! But God revealed to Abram, and has revealed to us in Jesus, that He is a personal God. He wants us to come to Him, trust Him, and seek His will in all things. He wants us to stand firm in love, not be passive spiritual wimps.
