6 “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’[a] 7 ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,[b] 8 and the two will become one flesh.’[c] So they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” 10 When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. 11 He answered, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. 12 And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.”

Jesus quotes two passages from the very beginning of the Bible. Genesis 1:27 and 2:24. God made male and female in His image. God created sexual differences and both sexes are equally image bearers. God also brought those two different image bearers together to help him create! A man and woman come together and are united in a marriage that creates new humans! It is amazing that we have that ability and that privilege! That is God’s will and purpose for marriage. God brings a man and a woman together to bless one another as equal image bearers who create new life, which is what we call a family. This is God’s will and design for marriage. Yet, as we will look at tomorrow, we don’t like God’s will.
