Mark 13:1-2
New International Version
The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times 13 As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!” 2 “Do you see all these great buildings?” replied Jesus. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”

In yesterday’s passage Jesus pointed out the incredible faith of a poor widow. Mark 12:43 specifically says that he called to his disciples and pointed her out. But then immediately one of his disciples forgets or completely ignores what Jesus just said and points out the great and amazing temple that Herod the Great had built. The stones were massive and the structure huge. It was far greater than the temple that Solomon had built hundreds of years earlier. What did Jesus think of all that? He thought it was a pile of rubbish and told them it would be destroyed one day, which it was (AD 70, by the Romans). Instead, Jesus cares about our hearts of faith that, in our poverty, seek God’s mercy and grace. Which he freely gives!
