Let Nothing 'Choke Out' Your Faith!

Matthew 13:7 New International Version (NIV) 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 22 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful.

Thursday - June 25 - Read Matthew 13:7, 22 Back in the 1980’s as computers and mechanized technologies were rapidly advancing, many “experts” predicted that very soon we would have far more leisure time than we would know what to do with. However, when you ask people how they are doing the typical answer is: “busy.” Even in a small town like Flanagan, we are busier than ever. We fill our days with all sorts of things to do, places to go and people to see. I don’t have a reason for why we do this. I think part of the reason is that “getting stuff done” makes us feel better about ourselves and gives us a greater sense of worth. Maybe. Maybe not. All I know is that “busy-ness” is our reality. Jesus says that all the things that keep us busy are like weeds that “choke out” the Word of God. More than anything, Jesus wants us to know that he loves us, not because of what we do. He just loves us. Cling to that and He will produce good fruit.
