The Parable of the Net
47 “Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. 48 When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. Mon. July 20 - Matthew 13:47-48 While living in South Africa I saw a group of fishermen in small row boats slowly dragging a large net through the water. This dragnet had weights on bottom and empty bottles on top to keep the net stretched out as they pulled it slowly back to shore. Once they pulled the whole net in they had to pick out all the junk that got
caught in the net, too. Things like beer bottles, old shoes, and plastic garbage bags.
When they were all finished they took the fish to market to sell. The kingdom of
God is slowly dragging us in. All of us and everything in us. As Christians we know
that this is a good thing. God’s kingdom is at work now and will ultimately prevail.
Jesus has promised us that no matter what happens in this life God is working out
his plan of salvation. Maybe slower than we would like! But steadily and securely.
