16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17 For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
Thursday - June 18 - Read Matthew 13:16-17 Why are the disciples blessed? Because they “see” and “hear” Jesus in the flesh? Not really. Even though Jesus spoke those words directly to the disciples, he was also saying them to everyone who has faith in him. Before he came into the world all the prophets and the righteous people in the Old Testament were waiting. When Jesus arrived, died on the cross and was resurrected there was no more waiting! We do not have to wait for Jesus to save us. That is the “blessed” part. By faith we trust and believe that Jesus saved us and gives us eternal life with Him, the Father and the Holy Spirit. Hearing the Good News that we are loved by God is the blessing.
