Jesus Comforts His Disciples
14 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
Monday - May 11 - Read John 14:1-3
When Jesus spoke these words, the Jewish custom was for a couple to enter
into a one year period of engagement. During this time the man would
begin to put his affairs in order and prepare a place for his new family to
live. Often he would build an addition to his father’s house. Then, after the
year was over, there would be a week-long wedding festival and the groom
would take his new bride into the new house to live together. We live in the
time where Jesus has departed to prepare a place for us to live with Him
forever. We are waiting for that day with great anticipation. While we live in
this world, let us cling to the hope and the joy that awaits us. No matter
what happens in life Jesus loves us and will come to take us home.
