Galatians 3:1-6
New International Version
Faith or Works of the Law 3 You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. 2 I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard? 3 Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?[a] 4 Have you experienced[b] so much in vain—if it really was in vain? 5 So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard? 6 So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”[c]

When the Apostle Paul traveled to the region of Galatia (modern day Turkey) and preached the Gospel, a group of people received that good news and believed that the promises of God were for them, too. But then someone else came along and got them off track. They started to think that they needed more than just the promises of God in order to be “saved” and “get into heaven.” Paul was not happy! In fact, he was livid. He called them fools and idiots for abandoning the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Remember, Noah did not add anything to his salvation or earn eternal life. His faith in the truth of God’s word changed his life, but it was all up to God. Just think about what would have happened if God had not gotten rid of the flood (see Gen. 8:1). Faith is believing that God is really working in and through you!
